The length of a high school football game can change due to several factors.
A high school football game will last between 2 and 3 hours.
A football game is divided into 4 quarters. They are 12 minutes each. After two quarters, the game pauses for half time. Half time is usually 20 minutes.
This is when the marching band performs, the cheer team performs and special presentations are made.
The clock will be stopped (or paused) for many reasons:
1. Timeouts
2. Injuries
3. Out-of-Bounds Plays
4. Incomplete Passes
5. Change of Possession
6. Scoring Plays
7. Measurements
8. Penalties
The game will be longer if either team throws the ball more than running it because each incomplete pass stops the clock.
Even though high school games are 2 to 3 hours long, they are packed with action.
